On the evening of Friday, May 23rd, My parents told me to sit down in a chair in the kitchen and said that they had some very bad news. Gary Shanholtz Sr., retired firefighter and my long time trusted mechanic, died from a massive heart attack earlier that day.Words cannot explain the deep loss I feel. I knew Gary since 1995 when he took my dad's 1987 Chevy Blazer and did a total engine replacement for just a little over 2 grand. In the years that followed, whenever my dad (and later I) needed something done to the Blazer, Gary was the man to turn to. He bent his schedule around ours to help us get back on the road.
A great example of this was when me and my dad were heading out across the US. We were just about to reach the peak of Keyser's Ridge when the distributor snapped and broke on the Blazer, leaving us stranded. Gary came out with his flatbed at 4 AM in the morning and towed us back to Cumberland and dropped us off somewhere where another one of our friend's took us home. About 8 AM that day, he called and said he had the Blazer done and was willing to tow it out to us at no extra charge.

Now that is what I call a friend, and he will surely be missed.

To qoute Picard: WHAT IS THIS SHIT?

Someone do me a favor, and take a deep look at my icon. Do you see my normal shining Chevy logo that I've had for YEARS whilst here on DA?

OR

Do you see some fat obnoxious Z in it's place?

I don't know what the fuck is going on, but I'm not liking it. I've already tried uploading my old icon back up several times now and still see this fat white obnoxious Z on a black background.

I'm sure that when you were little, you saw the movie of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer and probably remember the Island of Misfit Toys, Well I just got back a few hours ago from my journey to the "A-Richner's Salvage Yard".

I will tell you, I have never in my life felt so sad and depressed from being in a junkyard. Sure, most of the cars were from auto accidents, but there were many cars there that we're in fair condition and could look excellent is only the right person would take it away and fix it. For Example: There was a 1970 VW Beetle sitting amongst the cars that if a true VW enthusiast were to have it, could make it look brand spanking new.

And of all the cars I saw there, a AMC AMX, sitting right behind a trailer home and looked in good condition. I know there are AMC guys out there that would love to do an off body restoration on it.

I also saw several S-10 Blazers (about 4 of them) and it really made me sad because I began to think of my old Blazer in this kind of enviroment. My dad told me that I couldn't take one home. I miss my Blazer sooo much.

Other cars in the area:
2 Fox-Body Mustangs
5 Pontiac Firebirds and Trans Ams.
2 2005 Cobalts (HearseGirl: Auto Accidents)
1 Nissan 300Z
15 to 20 School busses
1 White Neon SRT4 (could have been salvageable)
3 Chevy Cavaliers (another reason why I felt depressed)
Several 50's cars and trucks
1 Chevy Corvette
7 Ford Explorers
and other finely assorted cars and trucks. (did notice that there WERE more FORDS than CHEVYS)

The loler: a Honda Prelude RICER sitting on cinder blocks (had the fart can and everything)

But what was I doing there in the first place? Getting a 1985 Chevy Cavalier Z24 14" cast alluminum rim. Pictures from my adventures coming soon

Gettin' Competitive

If you haven't guessed it, I'm currently now taking KnightMare (My 1996 Cavalier) to a whole new level.

Within the past 2 weeks, I took virtually all of the interior out sparing the carpeting and my sub box. I also took the top off my dash to work inside it and pull some un-necessaries out of it, such as the radio and vent ducting. After doing that, I relocated (but have yet to rewire) my voltmeter and Tach to the center vent holes with the tach angled towards the driver's seat.

Eventually, I'd like to make a piece of sheet metal that will go over the hole where the radio used to be, so that I can mount some switches there and a few indicator LEDs, such as a toggle switch for my fog lights and bypass switches as well as making some sort of panel to go across the vent holes.

Why am I doing all this? Well, it's mainly in preperation of this year's AutoX and Polish Mtn. Hillclimb.

Sup ya'll Just making a quicky for tonight. I'm in the process of disassembling my computer equipment to make room for yet ANOTHER monitor and tower. In the same process, I need to rerun all the wiring and wire tie them in order to make them nice and tidy, AND tighten all the bolts that hold my desk together.
